- Even with the newly made testing alternatives, the new forms of testing still leave animals with a loss of motor skills, uncontrollable seizures, and excruciating pain
- Animal research has played an important role in the expansion of medical advances, some of which include penicillin, the polio vaccine, insulin, and the eradication of one of the world's most devastating diseases known to humanity, smallpox. Most of history's major medical achievements have involved the use of animals. Evenso, the suffering sustained by the animals being tested on is cruel and inhumane.
WHAT ARE THE CONS OF ANIMAL TESTING?
- The animals used in the experiments are then deliberately killed so that a necropsy (an autopsy performed on an animal) can be performed to determine the amount of damage done internally. This act alone is cruel and inhumane.
- Some animals are given medicine during the experiments so that they do not feel pain or distress, but thousands are not.
- Millions of animals are harmed in the name of research for not only product testing but well beyond that. 100 million animals fall prey to animal testing each year.
- There is no guarantee that a certain product will not harm us just because it did not harm the animal it was tested on. Even though it is claimed that animals are biologically similar to us, it is not 100% assured. Most animals used in testing are only 96-99% genetically similar to us humans.
- "It has been proven that over 92% of drugs that claim to pass the animal trials fail when tested on humans by the Humane Society of the United States."

Here is a link to a poem by Emerson Achari regarding the mercilessness involved with animal testing.
This poem is a reflection of what animals being tested on may feel physically and emotionally. I chose this piece because it shows the cruelty of animal testing on the animals themselves. I feel like this particular stanza (shown below) does an extremely good job at depicting the suffering each animal endures during experimentation and shows why animal testing is unethical and inhumane.
"Its difficult to live
When your life consists of nothing more than pain most days
Severe pain
It funny to know
the value of your life is nothing
nothing more than a beauty product
and perhaps for the lucky a cigarette."
